I studied the sunflower when I had an exhibition for the 125 year commemoration of Vincent van Gogh. I always had sunflowers in the exhibition space, and it was in this time that I feel the sunflower found me in a sense.
I wanted these sunflowers to be bright and light. This painting is done in portrait format, I have done another one called "Kaapse Sonneblom Liefde" in a landscape format of the same sunflowers, but from a slightly different angle.
